The Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) evaluates and monitors the efficacy, risks and quality of human and veterinary medicinal products. It also assesses the safety of novel foods for human consumption.

The Novel Foods Unit of the Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) assesses applications for approval of novel foods before introduction in the European Market. A novel food is a food or food ingredient which was not consumed to a significant degree in Europe prior to 15 May 1997.
