The Committee on Safety Assessment of Novel Foods (VNV) is an
independent body of experts who collectively cover a broad spectrum
of disciplines relevant to the scientific assessment of the safety
of novel foods (toxicology, nutrition, microbiology,
gastroenterology, epidemiology, statistics, molecular biology and
allergology).
Together with the Novel Foods Unit, the Committee VNV objectively
assesses the safety of a product on the basis of the data supplied
by the applicant. The assessment report is presented as scientific
advice to the minister.
