Mission
The Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) assesses and monitors the efficacy, risks and quality of human and veterinary medicinal products. It also assesses the safety of novel foods for human consumption.

Vision
The MEB is an authoritative centre of excellence with unique expertise on the development, efficacy, safety, quality and post-marketing surveillance of medicines. Since this knowledge can also be used to the benefit of other areas of the Dutch healthcare system, the MEB aims to apply this knowledge more broadly and to widen and continue to develop its knowledge base. Transparency and the provision of information to healthcare professionals and patients’ organisations are priorities.

Ambition
"The Medicines Evaluation Board plans to remain among the top five players in the EU network of medicinal product assessment authorities over the coming years."

The MEB's national function and its European role are closely interconnected. An organisation needs to have a strong national base if it is to play a significant role on the European stage. In turn, agencies that have established a strong European presence are best placed to take on national responsibility for medicinal products.
